Why Are My Teeth Gapped?
Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
When scheduling a consultation with your cosmetic dentist in Green Hills, Dr. Cummings will examine your oral cavity and facial structure to determine if you are a qualified candidate for Invisalign. If your individual case is minimal, it is likely you will be eligible for treatment, but it is important that you are committed to the process and agree to:
- Wear your trays for 20-22 hours each day
- Swap out your trays every 1-2 weeks
- Maintain scheduled appointments that allow Dr. Cummings to review your progress
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign works to treat gapped teeth by gently moving them in the right direction, bringing them closer together to create a more uniform smile.
After you’ve received the green light from Dr. Cummings to move forward with Invisalign, impressions will be taken of your smile and sent to a dental lab where technicians will create custom-made aligners for you. Once they arrive in our office, you’ll retrieve your trays and specific instructions as to how to wear your aligners and for how long. Each patient is different so timelines may vary.
Most likely, you will wear your aligners 20-22 hours a day for two weeks at a time. After this time, you will switch out your trays for the next in the series, at which you will notice a gentle shift in the direction of your smile. You may experience some discomfort as your teeth move, but an over-the-counter pain reliever can help to alleviate some of the aching feelings.
Depending on the severity of your case, you can expect to be finished with Invisalign treatment anywhere between 12 and 18 months, however, you must maintain your regular dental appointments and wear your Invisalign aligners as instructed in order to prevent a delay in treatment.
