How Invisalign Works – Nashville, TN
Get a Straight Smile with Clear Aligners
Are you ready to invest in a straight, confident smile using the clear choice in orthodontics? Invisalign in Green Hills is the preferred solution among teens and adults who need a less noticeable treatment to correct their bite and alignment concerns. Instead of brackets and wires moving your teeth, a series of clear plastic aligners gradually move them into position. Although you are excited to start your treatment, we understand you have several questions about how the aligners work. There is no need to worry. Here is what you can expect while on your journey to a straight smile.
How Does Invisalign Work?
At Advanced Dental Health Center, Dr. Clayton Cummings is a preferred Invisalign provider. He performs the comprehensive consultation you need to create your customized treatment plan. After ensuring they are the right choice for you, he takes impressions of your mouth to map the movement of your teeth using advanced technology. The information is fabricated to a series of clear plastic aligners worn over your teeth for at least 22 hours per day
Each tray in the series is specially designed to move your teeth .25 mm to transition them into their ideal location. On average, you switch to the next aligner in the series about every 1 to 2 weeks depending on Dr. Cumming’s recommendation.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
You first need to schedule a consultation with your cosmetic dentist in Green Hills, Dr. Cummings. He conducts a Smile Assessment to see if it is the right orthodontic treatment for you. He takes a digital scan of your mouth to create the 3D images to move your teeth. The images are transferred to BPA-free plastic aligners.
The dental lab makes your aligners with precision to ensure successful results and a comfortable fit. They are smooth, so you do not need to worry about any irritation to the inside of your lips or cheeks. After the lab sends the aligners to our office, Dr. Cummings explains your treatment process and how to care for your smile at home. On average, it takes about 12 months to finish your series of aligners, but the duration of your treatment varies depending on several factors, such as how many aligners are needed and if you wear them correctly.
During your treatment, you do not need appointments for adjustments because no wires are needed; however, you still need to come into the office every few weeks. This allows Dr. Cummings to monitor the movement of your teeth to ensure you are progressing through your treatment plan as expected. After you finish your treatment, you will need to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from moving back into their previous positions.
